Fridays On Front:Car Free Retro Rewind
🎶Car Free Retro Rewind Had Us Dancing Like A Disco Ball Night! 🕺💥
Sweethearts, if you were anywhere but Front Street Mews last Friday night, I need you to pause that cassette tape and let me catch you up — because July 25th’s Fridays on Front: Car Free Retro Rewind was a full-out blast from the past!
We turned the street into a car-free, neon-drenched party playground straight out of your favorite 80s and 90s movies — and trust me, nobody left without a groove in their step and a throwback tune stuck in their head.
A special thanks to our glamourous photographer for the wonderful pics: Moniza Perim
Every Beat Giving Walkman Energy 🎧
As part of the Car Free initiative, folks ditched their rides, grabbed their bus and train passes, and walked to Front Street to experience the best free summer events in Downtown New Westminster — no traffic, no honking, just pure vintage joy. And darling, did people show up! Families, friends, toddlers, teens, seniors… all dancing like it was prom night.
The Entertainment? A Whole Rewind Party 📼
Once again, our fierce host and Drag King, Justin Abit, brought the sass and shook his glamorous glittery outfit — Footloose-style, no less. The crowd? Was OBSESSED.
Then came DJ Ceefour, presented by the talented crew at Barkada Hair & Studio. He spun the biggest 80s and 90s bangers — and when Soulja Boy dropped? The whole block was cranking that Superman. I nearly kicked off my heels, baby!
And let’s talk about the Big Bone Brass Band… their performance had more brass than a disco trophy shelf. Guitars, trumpets, drums — it was live, loud, and loaded with rhythm that had everyone moving until the last minute!
Snacks, Sips, and Sweet Nostalgia 🍔🍦🍷
You know we don’t play when it comes to food. Our local food trucks had something for everyone:
Reel Mac and Cheese with that creamy, crispy, cheesy comfort
Ay! Mamacita Artisan Street Food bringing Mexican street food sass
Mahshiko with their Korean fusion magic
Rocky Point Ice Cream keeping it cool
Big Bites with a delightful selection of hot dogs
Burgerholic handling the patty cravings
Our friends at Steel & Oak Brewing Co. had the beer flowing, and the wine bar? Oh, she was busy, baby. 🍷🍻
A Special Shout-Out 🙌
Huge cheers to the Barkada Hair & Studio’s crew who got everyone fire burning on the dance floor, and Dehls Gourmet (hello, West African flavour explosion— both fabulous business members of Downtown New West BIA, who made the street pop with moves, flavour and flair.
And to all the vendors, volunteers, and party-goers who made this night happen: thank you. It was a beautiful reminder of what makes Fridays on Front such a community-loved summer series.
Produced by Downtown New West BIA, we’d like to thank Douglas College for presenting this amazing event with us, our sponsors Translink and Tourism New West, and of course, Steel & Oak Brewing Co, for the fabulous beer!
Quick Break — But Don’t Fret, Sugar!
We’re hitting pause this Friday, August 1st. Even this sparkly friend of yours needs a moment to recharge her glitter supply. ✨ 💅
But we’ll be BACK on August 8th with Fiesta Latina Night! You better believe the music will be caliente and the street will be sizzling! 🌶️
👀 Keep your eyes on our Instagram next week for sneak peeks, food truck lineups, and performance teasers.
Until then, keep that playlist on repeat and your dancing shoes ready — Fridays on Front isn’t done yet.
With shoulder pads and love,
