Retro Night/Carfree Day Had Us Dancing Through the Decades!

A special thanks to our incredible photographer for the wonderful pics: Griffin Hayter

If there were one word to describe last Friday (July 24), it would be... FABULOUS! From the first beat to the final encore, Retro Night/Carfree Day transformed Front Street Mews into the biggest throwback party in Downtown New Westminster.

Colourful outfits filled the streets as hundreds of festival-goers embraced the music, fashion, and fun of the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s.

And how about that glamorous bus parked at the event and the “I love Skytrain” selfie frame? All courtesy of TransLink to remind us that there is no speed limit to partying hard when we choose public transport over driving.

The Dance Floor Was Calling...

Our one and only Justin Abit returned to host another amazing evening, bringing timeless humour, slang, and performances all the way back to the 60s that kept the crowd smiling from start to finish!

DJ Ceefour had everyone singing along to throwback anthems and reliving favourite memories through every remix, from Backstreet Boys to Gangnam Style–We saw your flawless dance moves. Whether you grew up with cassette tapes, CDs, or your very first MP3 player, there was a song for everyone.

Adding even more energy to the evening, Clicks & Cuts brought an incredible vinyl live performance that turned the Mews into one giant outdoor dance floor until the last second!

Fuel for Every Dance Break

No retro party is complete without amazing food. Our fantastic lineup of food trucks kept everyone energized throughout the night:

  • 🍗 Hens Up Chicken

  • 🍳 Frying Pan

  • 🍦 Rocky Point Ice Cream

  • 🍲 Nami Vietnamese Cuisine

  • 🍜 Memory Bing

  • 🌮 Ay! Mamacita

Festival-goers also cooled off between dance moves with beer from Steel & Oak Brewing Co. and sodas provided by Heartberry Soda. 🍺🫐

Celebrating Local

One of the best parts of Fridays On Front is seeing our local business community shine. Thank you to all of our amazing vendors, especially Relove Records, The Hyve Tattoo Studio, Serpent Skin Tattoo Collective, and Grapevine Tattoo, for helping create such a vibrant shopping experience throughout the evening. Families also enjoyed plenty of activities thanks to New West Family Place, whose interactive games and activities kept families smiling all night long.

Thank You, Downtown New West!

Events like Retro Night/Carfree Day simply wouldn't happen without an incredible community working together and showing up.

Thank you to our dedicated Downtown New West BIA team, our amazing volunteers, and the City of New Westminster for their continued support. We're also incredibly grateful to our presenting partner Douglas College, and to this week's sponsors Translink and Tourism New Westminter for helping make Fridays On Front possible.

And finally... Thank you to everyone who came out to dance, sing, shop local, support our vendors, enjoy fantastic food, and celebrate another beautiful summer evening with us. You are what makes Fridays On Front so special!

🌴 The Party Continues...

We're taking a short break over the July 31 long weekend, but don't worry—the fun is far from over!

We'll be back on Friday, August 7 with Fiesta Latina, bringing vibrant music, even more delicious food, incredible performances, and plenty of dancing to the Mews once again.

Keep an eye on our social media on Wednesday, August 5, when we'll reveal the full lineup and everything you can expect for one of the most tropical and colourful nights of the season!

Until then…

Soak up the summer atmosphere, and keep hydrating, babes.

We need you in your best shape for the conga line on August 7! 💋
